- Description
1. How does the setting know if children need extra help and what should I do if I think my child may have special educational needs?
Every child during their settling in visits to nursery will be assigned a key person, the key person is responsible for monitoring and supporting the child’s needs, learning and development.
The key person will work closely with you to do an on entry assessment on your child’s likes, interests and abilities this partnership continues as the child moves through the nursery.
If we feel your child needed extra support with an area of learning or development or if they was not meeting the typical age range of development the key person would work with parents to plan what strategies and activities they feel would be best to support the child.
The Key person would also speak with the Nursery SENCO to see if there was anything that could be put in place for the child or if there was a specialist service we could seek advice from.
If you feel your child may have special educational needs you should speak to your child’s key person or the nursery SENCO who will support and advise families.
2. How will the staff in the setting support my child?
Staff have a sound knowledge of child development and activities they can provide to enhance and stimulate children’s learning through play.
Weekly snippet observations and in depth monthly observations will be completed with your child, we link these to the EYFS development matters guidelines, the observations support the Practioners in planning weekly activities to enhance individual child’s learning and to track their progress.
We track all children’s development termly going off observations from the previous months, and log them into the child’s learning journals
3. How will the curriculum be matched to my child's needs?
Denehurst use development matters as a guideline to plan appropriate activities for the children in our setting.
The curriculum is adapted to a child’s individual needs.
4. What specialist services and expertise can be accessed by the setting?
We can access
Speech and Language therapy Team
Education psychologist
Community paediatrician
SENISS
Our SENCO Danielle regularly attends DIPTAC and consortia meetings where she can be advised on what to put in place to support children or to access funds to buy in specialist equipment resources or time to support your child while in our care.
5. How accessible is the setting?
We are happy to discuss your child’s individual needs and to make reasonable adjustments.
6. How will the setting support my child in transferring to the next stage of education?
When children transition to their next stage of education we introduce stories and role play experiences relating to school into their day.
We will send on a transition report detailing the child’s likes and interests learning styles and what age range their development is at the time of leaving.
We can also have meetings with the new setting to discuss how to make the transition as smooth as possible for the child.
7. How are parents involved in the setting? How can I be involved?
Parents are always welcome to stay and play in our nursery.
We encourage parents to come into nursery at least once termly to look through their child’s development file and contribute to their learning and celebrate their achievements.
