Daisy Inclusive UK

Daisy Inclusive UK is a disability led charity based in Liverpool that supports vulnerable and disabled young people, adults and their families through strands in the Daisy chain which includes, sports, music, education, employment and support. The Daisy Chain is a strategy put in place that is designed to help give the vulnerable and disabled people we support a personalised pathway to social readiness and become active members in their community.

Daisy Inclusive UK really is a place like no other. Founded and ran by Dave Kelly, who lost his sight at the age of 30, over 25 years ago, he wanted to create a safe and inclusive environment where vulnerable and disabled people could take part in sports and activities with their brothers, sisters and friends. 25 years on Daisy Inclusive UK is now at the forefront of decision making in a number of issues that affects the everyday lives of vulnerable and disabled people from training teachers and educators to be inclusive in the classroom to helping local businesses to be disability friendly and disability confident.

Daisy Inclusive UK are also one of the first charities to become a third party reporting centre for disabled people who are the victims of anti social behaviour and disability hate crime, from point of contact to support through the judicial system. Daisy also works with individuals on a one to one basis helping to bring disabled and vulnerable people out of isolation into an Inclusive environment with the goal of social readiness. Giving individuals the skills, knowledge and experience that will allow them not only to make key decisions in their lives but to follow a future path that is bespoke to them.

The Daisy Nucleus Academy, building blocks of our community is based in one of most deprived areas in the UK . With cut backs to local adult and children's services Daisy has become an integral part of the local community and has become a lifeline and support network for the people that use the service everyday. From point of contact trained staff will work with individuals to create a personal development plan that will guide and support them in their journey to social readiness.

Daisy run a number of sporting and physical activity clubs including goalball, multi sports clubs, inclusive cricket and cycling all of which are fully inclusive and aim to make sports accessible to all. These sessions not only help to get participants involved in physical activity but are designed to help improve their well being, confidence and fight further health issues that can be a result of inactivity due to isolation.

Another key element in the support that Daisy offers is education and employment support. Personal development tutors and Youth workers work with individuals who would like to create a pathway into further education, volunteering or employment to gain the skills, qualifications and experience to give them the best opportunity to achieve their future aspirations. Daisy have also given the opportunity to a number of participants to work or volunteer as part of team Daisy, working alongside key staff we have trained future assistants sports coaches, kitchen ass

Daisy Inclusive UK also offer help, support and guidance for disabled and vulnerable people and their families to ensure that they are receiving the right support financially and have a strong and knowledgeable support network behind them. We run regular support and discussion groups including a disability discussion group and a parent/career discussion group which gives participants the opportunity to forge friendships, share experience and gain the knowledge to ensure that they are receiving the correct support.

Daisy also run our SMILE project (Self Motivation Inclusive Learning and Empowerment) the Mini SMILE for 8-15 years transitioning to the SMILE for 16 plus. Along with the Daisy Chain strategy the SMILE project works with participants to teach life skills that encourage independence using vocational based learningistants, admin staff and youth workers.

Description

Daisy Inclusive UK

Daisy Inclusive UK is a disability-led organisation that supports disabled people with complex needs and their families to live independent and inclusive lives through engagement activities, building confidence and self-esteem. We provide support through each link of the Daisy Chain through transition from isolation to inclusion, with a focus on NEET 16-24 vocational training, employment and volunteering opportunities.

We aim to break down the barriers disabled people face and support them to reach their true potential. Daisy Inclusive UK provides a safe environment, where we are able to engage with and offer support to some of our most vulnerable members of society. “Make them Laugh and they’ll Listen, make them listen and they’ll Learn”. We provide engagement and confidence building programmes through sport, leading onto training, education and employment and by using the concept of reverse inclusion- which is a unique social, interactive and engagement strategy that is primarily disability led with non-disabled users included to make integration easier and will give all users the knowledge and empathy for social inclusion.

Our aims as an organisation include:

•Activities that foster an understanding of disability.

•Elimination of discrimination on the grounds of disability.

•Social inclusion and integration of disabled people through provision of and access to sport and recreational activities.

•Education for disabled people and society through support, advice and guidance.

•Providing support services for parents, carers, siblings and friends of disabled people.

The key guiding principle of the organisation is a Daisy chain of activities and interventions that takes people with disabilities from Isolation to Inclusion. It is a step by step approach towards independence that beneficiaries can join at any stage of their own personal development. Our activities include:

•Sports and recreation for young disabled people

•Disability awareness for local employers

•Volunteer training

•A pilot Disability Hate Crime service in partnership with Merseyside Police and the Liverpool Citysafe Partnership

•Motivational talks to relevant  organisations representing people from communities who are vulnerable and disadvantaged

•Advice and guidance
