Funded Early Learning and Childcare for 2-year-olds on additional support from Government

15 hours free childcare

Your two year old may be eligible for 15 hours free early education each week, for 38 weeks, if they meet certain eligibility criteria and their family is receiving additional support from the Government.

Check eligibility via Childcare Choices

Please Note: if you are working and looking to apply for the working parents funded place for 2 year olds from April 2024 please use this link  https://www.gov.uk/apply-free-childcare-if-youre-working , to do this you will need to have a government gateway account or create one. Working parents that claim tax free childcare you will not be able to apply for their code for the expanded offer until the time when they are renewing their tax free childcare claim so this may be very close to 31 March 2024.

Apply for two year funding

Visit the Citizen Portal to apply for a Two Year Funding (TYF) code.

If you are eligible for 2 year funding, you will receive a TYF code. You should present this to your chosen childcare provider.

Evidence of the child's date of birth and address will need to be shown along with the TYF code before a place can be offered.

Where a child is looked after by the Local Authority, their eligibility will be confirmed by the Local Authority.

For children with Special Educational Needs / Disabilities (SEND) you will be eligible if the child has an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) or if the child is in receipt of Disability Living Allowance (DLA).

What type of childcare can I use?

Your preferred childcare setting must be registered with Ofsted and have acquired at least a ‘Good’ rating. It must also be included on the local authority list of Early Years Funding providers to receive funding for the child.

To find out if a childcare setting is on the local authority provider list, please use our Family Information and SEND Directory Childcare Search. These include school nurseries, private day nurseries, childminders, and playgroups.
