All programmes of study include compulsory Maths and English lessons for students aged 14 - 19yrs who do not have GCSE Grade 4 or above in these subjects. Students with an EHCP will continue to attend maths and English classes until the age of 25 yrs, unless they have maths and/or English GCSE Grade 4 or above.
The College provides courses and support for students with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities, but it is not a specialist LDD college.
The college prides itself with working closely with external providers, local businesses and the Local Authority to support young people with preparing for adulthood. As part of this, Myerscough College provide Supported Internship Programmes, which enable young people aged 16-24 with an Education, Health and Care plan to achieve sustainable paid employment by equipping them with the skills they need for work, through learning in the workplace. Wherever possible, they support the young person to move into paid employment at the end of the programme. Alongside their time at the employer, our students complete a personalised study programme which includes the chance to study for relevant substantial qualifications, if appropriate, and English and maths. Transition to Myerscough College
The Learning Support (Inclusive Learning) team will help you with your transition to us, ready for the start of your course. If you are considering applying to study at Myerscough College you can choose to invite our Transitions team to your Year 10 and 11 Review at school. They will be able to explain what courses are offered at Myerscough and how you will be supported before you start and during your time at College.
You can come and speak to us during the College’s Open Days, we will be able to tell you about the support we offer. Once you have applied to a course, Learning Support (Inclusive Learning) will be able to offer tours of the areas you are interested in, across our campuses. After your interview, the department may offer taster days to give you an idea of what the course will be like.
School Reviews
If you have an EHCP, one of our Transitions Advisors can be invited to attend your Year 10 and 11 Annual Review at school. They will offer advice on the courses offered at Myerscough College and provide you with information about support available to you if you study at Myerscough.
Initial Assessment
Once you have declared a learning need and/or disability on your application form, Inclusive Learning will contact you to discuss your support needs.
You will have the opportunity to meet one of our Inclusive Learning Co-ordinators who will discuss your learning needs and how to best support you whilst in College.
Inclusive Learning will produce a SEND Support plan outlining the support you need whilst at College.
Annual Reviews
Each year at College you will have an annual review of your EHCP, which takes place at College or more usually remotely. At your review there will be yourself and family members/advocate, staff from the college and other professionals. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss your progress at College, your mid and long term plans, what is working well, what you might require to support with and your aspirations for the future. We will also review your EHCP to see if anything needs updating. The meeting will last around 1 hour.
