Independent Travel Training (Traded Services)

TRADED SERVICES

In addition to the statutory services that are offered free to young people up to the age of 18 years (by the 31 August) and under who are eligible for SEN Transport, we also have a range of traded services that can be purchased by schools, Post 16 Providers, Adult Social Care etc..

Moving On Travel Training Programme for Primary School Pupils

In May 2018, The Independent Travel Training Team launched a new training programme within the education sector which aims to improve the accessibility of transport for primary schools pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, or pupils who require additional support to become confident, independent travellers during the transition to secondary school.

The programme is delivered over a 6 week period and is mainly classroom based with some practical elements.  Following completion of the programme any eligible students identified as requiring support or training can be referred for individual training.  (Please see leaflet for further details)

Bespoke Packages

There is also a full menu of support and training available to schools, other Local Authorities, Adult Social Care for individual or groups to purchase which includes:

  • Assessments
  • Classroom training
  • Practical training
  • Open Awards Qualifications
  • Advice/support/presentations

By commissioning our traded service, there are cost saving benefits for the commissioners with the reduction in accessing specialised assisted transport, but the benefits for the young people/adults and the wider community are potentially far more significant.  The programme makes a real difference to the lives and expectations of young people/adults.  It enables them to develop independence skills on their transition to adulthood, reducing the need to access Adult Social Care and for young adults, it promotes inclusion and opens up routes to enable them to access social activities and employment opportunities, also improving their confidence and level of health and well-being.  (Please see leaflet for further details)
