Stepping Stones Nursery and Preschool
We are based in a large Victorian house. We have a toddler room and preschool room.The nursery has two gardens, one has safety flooring and the other garden is grass.
We are a vegetarian nursery, and cater for all special diets whether its food allergies or religious requirements.
All our staff are fully qualified NNEB, NND or NVQ 3. We are all up to date with Paediatric first aid and basic food hygiene.
We are open 51 weeks a year. Close for Christmas and bankholidays.

1. How does the setting know if children need extra help and what should I do if I think my child may have special educational needs?
We work with parents to find out the children’s starting point on entry to the setting this is done by using are initial assessment and all about me in our enrolment pack.
When your child is new to our setting their progress will be discussed with you regularly and we are happy to liaise with any previous setting including child minders with your consent. Your child’s progress is monitored through Early Years Foundation Stage with regular Observations, 2 years old progress check, All about Me Observations. Your child will have a named key person when they start the setting and the key person will observe and assess your child using The Early years Foundation Stage. The key person will discuss any areas of concern and you will be involved and informed on a regular basis. We will also liaise with the health care professional team that you and your child may have contact with.
2. How will the staff in the setting support my child?
If your child needs extra support we will discuss this with you and with your consent will access support from outside agencies. We are well placed to be able to support your child and able to signpost you to other agencies if needed.
Children in our nursery are supported through an established key person system who monitors their developmental progress in the child’s Learning Journey using 2yr old progress checks, written observations and photographic evidence from nursery and discussions with parents/carers.
Daily planning, small group work and in some cases individual play plans are used to help support your child.
The progress of all children is monitored and reviewed regularly and shared with parents and carers. We measure progress using EYFS.
We are a Vegetarian nursery; we use soya products as a substitute for meat. We cater for the dietary needs of your child.
3. How will the curriculum be matched to my child's needs?
The setting is organised by chronological age. The curriculum is adapted to a child’s individual needs. The key person plans activities which are based on children’s individual stage of development.
4. What specialist services and expertise can be accessed by the setting?
All our staff is qualified to NVQ level 3, NNEB, NND, CACHE. We have regular and updated training in
Paediatric First Aid
Speech and language course
Managing Behaviour Course
Basic Food Hygiene.
We work with Speech and Language Therapists and Educational Psychologists team
We are able to support children with English as an additional language.
We work in partnership with the local authority, health and social care services.
We are members of National Day Nurseries Association NDNA
We are members of the Liverpool Early Years Consortia.
5. How accessible is the setting?
We are based in a Victorian semi detached house.
The setting is wheelchair accessible only to the ground floor. We are happy to discuss your child’s individual needs and to make reasonable adjustments.
6. How will the setting support my child in transferring to the next stage of education?
We invite teachers /senco from the local schools that children will be attending to visit our setting and in some cases are senco/key person has been invited to their school.
We attend the local authority transition meetings. We have school transition forms that we fill in just before your child leaves us, we share this form with you, you keep a copy and the new setting gets a copy.
We work closely with all local schools in Liverpool.
7. How are parents involved in the setting? How can I be involved?
We invite parents in to nursery to discuss their child’s progress regularly. We have parent/carer’s come in and read stories to the children in their first language. We have links with our local children centre. We have regular fun day events for charities.
