Description

1. How does the setting know if children need extra help and what should I do if I think my child may have special educational needs?

Every child’s learning is planned for, observed assessed and monitored. If staff members have concerns about your child’s learning and development they will discuss them with you and together you will plan next steps. The first step is usually the implementation of an individual education plan (Play Plan) this is drawn up by the child’s key person and parents. Play Plans are reviewed every six weeks. If play plans have not been successful with your permission, we would seek advice from consortia (a board for children with additional needs). It may be necessary with your consent to involved specialist services for example Educational Phycologist or Speech and Language Therapist. If your child is new to our setting then progress will be discussed with you regularly and we are happy to liaise with any previous setting or professionals involved.

 2. How will the staff in the setting support my child?

 The progress of all children is monitored and reviewed regularly and shared with parents. We measure progress using;

  • EYFS, Learning Journals, Observations, sensory play, visuals/symbols, small group work, large group work, focused activities, one to one time with your child’s key person, child initiated play, adult initiated play and free play within areas of provision.
  • Targeted learning through mini topics that are linked to the EYFS outcomes.
  • Referral to specialist services for example, speech and Language Therapy, SENISS and Educational Phycologist.
  • Opening an EHAT (Early Help Assessment Tool) to support your child and family.

 3. How will the curriculum be matched to my child's needs?

The setting use’s the EYFS framework to plan and assess learning and development for all children from the ages of birth to five years. The curriculum is adapted to a child's individual needs.

 4. What specialist services and expertise can be accessed by the setting?

Our setting works in partnership with the local authority and health and social care services.

We are members of the Early Years Consortia Cluster 1.

Our setting’s Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) has over ten year’s experience in working with children with additional needs. She has been awarded level 3 in supporting children and young people with learning disabilities and level 4 in Special Educational Needs Provision. All Staff have attended Tier 1 ASD awareness training and our SENCO has attended Tier 1 and Tier 2. All staff have also attended behaviour management training.

 5. How accessible is the setting?

Our setting is happy to discuss your child’s individual needs with you and to make reasonable adjustments.

 6. How will the setting support my child in transferring to the next stage of education?

Our setting works closely with all schools in the area, to support your child through transition.

 7. How are parents involved in the setting? How can I be involved?

We invite parents to discuss their child's progress regularly.

We ask them to read through observations and planning every four weeks and leave comments in the parents contribution box.

Parents evenings are held every term.
