Description
  1. 1.     How does the setting know if children need extra help and what should I do if I think my child may have special educational needs?

Parent/carers are welcome to visit our nursery at any time to talk through children's journeys and development.

The Rocking Horse Nursery has good relationships with our families built on trust and good communication.

Parents are invited into the setting each term for reviews on their child’s progress and this gives opportunities for parents to discuss any concerns.

Regular key person reviews take place if there are any concerns about progress or if any extra support is needed for the child, this is identified early and acted upon. Key persons and Sendco’s monitor the effectiveness of these interventions and the impact on the child’s progress

    2.     How will the staff in the setting support my child?

The Key person with support of the Sendco will support the child and build up a good relationship. The Rocking Horse Nursery offer free taster sessions and strongly encourage parents to take up these sessions to support an easy transition for the child, ensuring your child is emotionally settled to cope.

If your child has any medical needs these will be discussed during the application process and all practitioners will be trained up and a care plan will be drawn up.

    3.     How will the curriculum be matched to my child's needs?

The Nursery will carefully monitor, assess and track the progress of your child throughout the year and this will be shared with you regularly.

The curriculum is matched to the child by identifying your child’s individual needs and interests, then adapting the environment /activities to suit your child’s needs.  Your child’s targets will then be regularly reviewed with you and any other professionals involved with your child. This process will inform future steps and progress being made.

    4.     What specialist services and expertise can be accessed by the setting?

All our staff are highly trained and experienced. We attend training to improve and develop our practice.

The Manager and Sendco attend the Local Consortia every month to access professional support from Educational Psychologists, Seniss and any training needs for our practitioners to support children in our setting that require additional support.

Manager and Sendco’s have completed the Portage programme.

Over the years we have built professional relationships and links with other agencies like Speech and Language, Educational Psychologists, Seniss, paediatricians and disability link workers.

Practitioners have completed Makaton training and they incorporate this in to daily practice.

    5.     How accessible is the setting?

The Rocking Horse Nursery is based on one level. We have nappy changing facilities and our toilet arears are wheel chair accessible. We have a disabled toilet facility.

If your child requires specialist equipment to help support them access nursery, this can be discussed on application of a place.

    6.     How will the setting support my child in transferring to the next stage of education?

The Nursery welcomes parents/carers to take a tour of the nursery and discusses your child’s needs before they start, ensuring everything is in place. We also have smooth transitions into each room based on the child’s emotional well- being.

We can arrange the school to visit and there may be opportunities for us to visit them, sharing information, resources and strategies that we know have worked well with your child to maintain continuity of care from nursery transition to school.

As A PVI nursery we do not have a specific allocated Special Needs and Disability budget but we obtain funding to support our children through applications to the Local Authority/ Local Consortia

    7.     How are parents involved in the setting? How can I be involved?

We value parents/carers input, advice and support and have parent reviews termly or as often as you wish. Parents take part in our nursery sports days. There is parent  partnership trees for you to share family or home experience, your child’s achievements and news.

We have a parent area where we share any information related to the nursery or childcare.
