Description

HOW DOES THE SCHOOL KNOW IF CHILDREN NEED EXTRA HELP?

We discuss the progress and attainment of children new to our school with their previous school or nursery. We track all children each term in reading, writing and maths and quickly identify children who are not on track and may need extra help.

HOW IS THE DECISION MADE ABOUT WHAT TYPE AND HOW MUCH SUPPORT MY CHILD RECEIVES?

When our tracking has identified a concern about a child we determine the appropriate timescale for a classroom based intervention and the expected outcome from this. If the expected outcomes are not met we determine a timescale for withdrawal from class to a small group intervention and the expected outcome from this. If the expected outcomes are not met, and if appropriate, we access further support from outreach services through the Primary Consortia. If your child requires additional specialist support we will discuss with you the pathways to more specialist support/provision.

WHAT SPECIALIST SERVICES AND EXPERTISE CAN BE ACCESSED BY THE SCHOOL?

We can access support from the Educational Psychology Service, SENISS (Special Educational Needs Integrated Support Service) CAMHS and other schools in the Primary Consortia.

WHAT TRAINING DO STAFF SUPPORTING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE WITH SEND RECEIVE?

Staff training is identified in line with our Provision Map.

WHAT SUPPORT WILL THERE BE FOR MY CHILD’S OVERALL WELL-BEING?

We promote personal, social cultural, health and emotional development through our Values Curriculum and dedicated Focus Weeks. Physical development is supported through our P.E curriculum and extra-curricular clubs, our school nurse drop-in sessions and our administration of medication policy.

HOW WILL MY CHILD BE INCLUDED IN ACTIVITIES OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM SUCH AS SCHOOL TRIPS?

We complete Risk Assessments to identify any additional support which a child may require to access activities outside of the classroom including school trips.

HOW ACCESSIBLE IS THE SCHOOL?

The school is built on a number of levels and access between these may be difficult for some children.

HOW WILL THE SCHOOL SUPPORT MY CHILD TO JOIN THE SCHOOL AND HOW WILL THE SCHOOL SUPPORT MY CHILD IN TRANSFERRING TO THE NEXT STAGE OF EDUCATION?

Our staff attend the Local Authority Early Years Transition day and we implement an Induction Programme during which you and your child will have the opportunity to visit for a number of short sessions. We contact any specialist services that support your child. We have a structured in school/between year group programme. Our staff attend the Local Authority Secondary School Transition day, at which we provide full information to relevant secondary schools to support the transition of individual children.

HOW ARE THE SCHOOL’S RESOURCES ALLOCATED AND MATCHED TO A CHILD’S OR YOUNG PERSON’S SPECIAL NEEDS?

Each year the school receives an allocated SEND budget. We allocate this in line with the needs of all of the children identified as having an additional need.

HOW ARE PARENTS INVOLVED IN THE SCHOOL? HOW CAN I BE INVOLVED?

We have an open door policy. We invite specialist agencies into school to talk to you about how they can support you and your child. We hold termly parent evenings for you to talk to your child’s teachers about their progress. We are happy to offer individual appointments to discuss specific issues with you about your child’s progress. We hold Home School events each term.

WHO CAN I CONTACT FOR FURTHER INFORMATION?

If you require more information about our school please go to our school website: www.bishopeton.co.uk. If you would like to talk to a member of staff, or if you think your child has a special need and this has not already been identified by the school, then an appointment can be made to see the class teacher, SENCO or Headteacher.
