Wired Young Carers in Warrington become an associate
of Tate Exchange at Tate Liverpool

Wired Young Carers, a charity based in Warrington who support young carers who are aged 18 or under, will become an associate of Tate Exchange at Tate Liverpool in January when they present work in the gallery for a week-long residency from 28 January to 2 February.
Tate Exchange is an ambitious ‘open experiment’ which allows other organisations and members of the public to participate in Tate’s creative process, running events and projects on site and using art as a way of addressing wider issues in the world around us.
The presentation by Wired Young Carers is based around the theme “Power” and will share an insight into the lives of our Young Carers through sharing lived experiences, photography, artwork and poetry. The week that Wired Young Carers will be in the gallery also coincides with National Young Carers Awareness Day on Thursday 30 January.
During the week in Tate Exchange, work from Wired Young Carers will demonstrate the challenges, emotional struggles, experiences and what is important to people who live their young lives as a carer. Alongside the artworks there will be sessions for visitors to identify young carers, to identify what support is available locally and how the Care Act and Family Act supports Young Carers alongside other sessions which focus on Mental Fitness and Support for young carers.
National Statics (2011) indicate that 1 in 5 of High School aged children is a Young Carer and the number of Young Carers is growing nationally, making this presentation at Tate Exchange in Liverpool a timely reminder of the importance of giving our young people a voice and recognising for the work they do as Young Carers.
This event is open to the public. Please come along to support our Young Carers.
