Domestic AbuseView all services

Domestic abuse can be devastating for individuals, children, families and communities.  The Home Office Definition of Domestic Abuse is:  ‘Any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality. This can encompass, but is not limited to psychological, physical, sexual, financial and emotional abuse’.

This definition includes so-called ‘honour’ based violence, forced marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM). It also covers a range of different types of domestic abuse including coercive control.
