Alternative Education Provision

Alternative Provision Team (APT) 

APT are responsible for brokering and monitoring alternative education placements for 14-16 year old pupils who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream schools. APT receive their referrals weekly from the Fair Access Panel. Most of APT’s referrals come from schools but they can get referrals from Admissions, Elective Home Education, Education Welfare or Looked After Children Education Services for 14-16 year olds that cannot be offered a mainstream school place.

APT place pupils based on their needs and location into providers that have been approved through Liverpool City Council’s procurement processes and are on the AEP framework contract (in exceptional circumstances pupils can be placed off contract). Providers collect twice daily attendance, set targets in IEPs and review progress. APT have two Education Welfare Officers who follow up non-attendance or non-engagement of pupils. The AEP framework contract runs from April 2016 until March 2020, it is a flexible framework contract. Which means that new providers can apply to join at any time during the contract. Evaluation of applications will take place every six months.
